Scenic construction internships
Learn by doing at the Monterey Peninsula's professional theatre.

PacRep mounts 9 to 12 stage productions each season. The scene shop has two full-time staff members and hires contract carpenters and technicians as needed.
One to four internships are available each season, depending on production needs. Design internships are not offered. Recommended for students interested in scenic construction or scenic design.
Responsibilities
Assist staff and overhire carpenters in all areas of scenic construction, and help keep the shop clean and productive. As your work is evaluated early in the internship, more responsibility and independent projects may follow. Interns are encouraged to speak up about their interests, and where possible will be given opportunities in those areas.
Skills
- Experience with larger power tools (table saws, radial arm saw, drill press, etc.) is required
- Two or more years using these tools in theatre is preferred
- College-level training in a related field (construction, carpentry, welding, mechanical engineering) is preferred
Good to know
PacRep's scene and prop shops can have temperature swings and dusty conditions, which may be uncomfortable for people with severe allergies.
Dates and hours
Summer interns work full time for at least 6 weeks. Fall, winter and spring interns may work part time for at least 12 weeks. Scheduling is arranged with the technical director.
Special events
Interns are expected to work on large company special events such as opening night parties, the annual dinner auctions and large patron events.
