About PacRep

The Monterey Peninsula's professional theatre company, rooted in Carmel since 1983.

PacRep was created in 1983 to encourage, facilitate and produce theatre arts in the Monterey Bay region, and to provide facilities where artists can nurture their work.

Founded by Stephen Moorer, who still leads the company as Founder and Executive Director, PacRep began as GroveMont Theatre, staging productions at Carmel's Cherry Hall and presenting Robinson Jeffers' Medea at the Forest Theater. In 1990 the company revived the Carmel Shakespeare Festival at the Forest Theater, and in 1993 it led the campaign to save the historic Golden Bough Playhouse from the wrecking ball.

Today Pacific Repertory Theatre produces plays, musicals and concerts on four stages, runs the Peppy Garner & Darnell Whitt School of Dramatic Arts, and welcomes thousands of residents and visitors to the central California coast every year.

In celebrating the transforming power of the creative spirit, PacRep Theatre produces bold and daring interpretations of the great plays from the world stage – plays that engage, excite, educate and inspire – presenting a world class theatrical experience.

Caring for the environment

Solar power on the Golden Bough's south-facing roof has eliminated our carbon footprint, and we use rechargeable microphones and refill stations instead of throw-away batteries and plastics. Our green steps
